Just start writing
I corresponded briefly with Vincent about Scribbles, and he used the phrase "just start writing" a few times to describe his intent for the product.
I thought it was going to be hard to move from a Markdown/git workflow, but it hasn't been much of an adjustment. The net effect has been that I've written a few things that started as a Mastodon post I was trying to whittle down to 500 characters and end up as quick Scribbles posts.
The Markdown part isn't essential either way to me. It is slightly more expressive than the built-in Rails text editor Vincent is using, but not by much for the writing I tend to do these days.
I thought I wouldn't like working in a text form, but that's not a big thing either. Again, I'm writing things that more often start as overstuffed Mastodon posts.
If something seems to be going longer than the 15 minutes I want to give it, I just "Save as draft" and it's there on any device without git to think about. If I come back to the thought later and realize there is neither a short post worth salvaging nor a long post worth investing in, I delete it.
So we'll keep pulling on the Scribbles thread.
