Well, huzzah. Apparently the X-Pro3 just needed to sit with a fresh main battery for a day. It retained all its settings without a main battery overnight.— toot

I decided to spring for the Swytch locking battery mount. A little snug with the foldylock, but it all fits and I don’t have to carry the battery around for grocery runs.— toot

I’ve always loved Fujifilm cameras as objects, partly because they have a sense of solidity and durability that reminds me of pre-90s cameras. I kept the X-Pro and two of my Fujicrons when I sold off my Fujifilm gear because I knew I’d want to take it out now and then just for the pleasure of shooting with a Fujifilm body and lens.

Probably not the most rational response in the world, but it bums me out that an eight-year-old camera that is othewise so durably built and so capable of making enduring images has that cheapening shortcut inside.

I found a local shop that does microsoldering, and I’m hoping they can provide a less expensive out. I’m surprised to have this feeling about that option that’s akin to how I’d feel if I had to replace a busted window crank in a vintage Mercedes with a drop-shipped 3D-printed part. Like, yeah it’ll work … I’ll just know it’s in there.— toot

The trick
It's a real source of strength for me to remember what it felt like to wake up in an Army barracks on the first day of Basic knowing I had a four-year desert to cross. I hadn't yet seen _Lawrence of Arabia_, so I eventually discovered "not minding that it hurts" all on my own.
